If you are a funny woman heading to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time, the Funny Women Glitter Project is here to support you. We have a team of mentors, some friendly events and advice if you need it.
Join us for a pre-Fringe check in on Zoom to get some first-hand advice from our experts who’ve all ‘been there, done that’ in some capacity. We all know how overwhelming it can be at the world’s largest arts festival, particularly if you’re new to comedy.
We will answer some of the most common questions such as:
- Which shows should I see?
- Are there open mics I can perform at?
- Where can I hang out with other comics, get a cheap meal, cry in private?
We’ve clocked up over 20 years of supporting and developing new comedy talent at grassroots with our ground-breaking Awards, workshops, courses and open mic events. Our priority has always been to build confidence in female and non-binary performers, writers and creators to give them the opportunity to pursue comedy careers.
Our inspiration for The Glitter Project was Jo Fletcher-Cross, one of our non-executive directors and comedian, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in summer 2022 on the eve of her Edinburgh debut. With Jo’s blessing we have created an enduring legacy to encourage those who’ve already established glittering comedy careers, to share it as everybody deserves a ‘bit of glitter’ in their lives
