Stage Award

STAGE AWARD – FUNNY WOMEN AWARDS 2025

Are you a stand-up comedian? A musical comedian? Part of a sketch group? An improviser? A character act? A clown? A cabaret performer? Whatever your comedy style, we want to see you perform!

Whether you’re established, up-and-coming, or a complete newbie, the **Stage Award** is looking for the best new comedy act. Our prize package offers career development and industry support.

WHO CAN ENTER?
The Stage Award is open to all new acts with no or under five years of agency representation.

HOW DO I ENTER?
To enter the Stage Award, complete the registration form and submit a 5-minute YouTube video of a single, continuous performance (i.e., your set). Edited videos comprising more than one performance are not permitted.

This does not need to be a professional-standard video—it can be a home self-tape via your smartphone! Funny Women’s panel of industry judges will watch only 5 minutes of your recorded performance, so ensure you submit the best 5 minutes you want us to see!

WHAT IS YOUR SET AND HOW LONG IS IT?
Your set should be 5 minutes of your best comedy material. It will always be 5 minutes, and you can use the same material throughout the whole competition.

Comedy Writing

COMEDY WRITING AWARD – FUNNY WOMEN AWARDS 2025

We’re looking for scriptwriters with a real flair for comedy narrative and the ability to craft laugh-out-loud jokes on paper. Joint entries are welcome!

This award focuses on new voices, meaning you are not eligible to enter if you have been employed as a writer or received paid commissions on a regular basis for one or more TV, Radio, Digital, or Film projects.

ELIGIBILITY & SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
– Your script must be an original piece of work of which you are the author(s).
– Do not submit work that has previously been produced for broadcast on television or radio. If in doubt, [contact us].
– Submit a 1-2 page treatment and 5 consecutive pages from one episode of a comedy script for television or radio. Do not send a full script.
– Scripts must be in English and formatted in standard TV or Radio script format. Refer to BBC Writers for formatting guidance or here is a useful fee software.
– Upload your treatment and script as PDFs. You can upload the same file twice if they are attached together. There are many free online tools available to convert documents into PDFs.

JUDGING CRITERIA
Scripts are judged on their concept, tone, characters, plot, structure, dialogue, humour, and overall marketability.

A panel of professional readers will select a long-list of 20 scripts, which will be reviewed by industry judges to determine the final short-list.

Due to the high number of entries, we can only offer feedback to those who make the short-list.

TREATMENT GUIDANCE
There is no single ‘right’ way to write a treatment, but we recommend including:
– **Logline**
– **Short synopsis**
– **Outline of the series**
– **Character breakdowns**
– **3-6 episode summary**

ENTRY RULES
– One entry per person or writing partnership.
– If you write in a partnership, you may also submit a solo script.
