Jane Beacon

Jane has worked in television for over 25 years, most recently as Head of Daytime for ITV.Prior to this role Jane worked in production, reaching Executive Producer level. In Entertainment she worked on Dancing on Ice, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, Hell’s Kitchen, Fame Academy and Celebrity Big Brother among others.Over the course of her career Jane has worked for ITV, BBC1, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky One and ITV2.

A multi-award-winning stand-up comedian, writer, director and experienced corporate event host. The only practicing orthodox Jewish woman on the UK comedy circuit, Rachel co-hosts the internationally renowned podcast "Jew Talkin' To Me?" and is resident MC for London club" Comedy Upstairs at the Adam & Eve”. TV Credits include BBC1 and NextUp Comedy and Rachel is a regular radio contributor and guest on national broadcasters including: BBC Radio4, BBC Radio 2, Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio London, and other regional stations.

Journalist, editor, playwright and stand-up comedian. She is editorial manager at an independent publishing house and content specialist, overseeing more than 50 publications a year as well as major events, awards, digital and video products. Other experience includes co-founding and running a physical theatre company, singing in various function bands, wig styling, seamstress in a kilt shop and training as a puppeteer: you name it, she’s probably given it a go.

Now semi-retired, Geoffrey worked for 30 years as CFO and COO of Angels, a costume hire company in the professional film, television and theatre industry where he still works part-time. Geoffrey was involved in the creation of the BAFTA Digital Games Awards and was Chair for two years for the Children’s Digital Awards. Geoffrey is an ex-trustee and chair of national and community charities.Currently a trustee of the Donor Conception Network Organisation and a Programme leader for an international, personal and professional growth, training and development company.

Funny Women NextUp…Comedy Shorts Award

Are you a budding Director? Producer? Screenwriter? Are you collaborating with friends to make a funny video? Then we are looking for YOU!

If you have a short film or sketch that you think is hilarious, then enter your work for our Comedy Shorts Award to be in with a chance of winning some life-changing support and mentoring from comedy professionals.

WHAT KIND OF FILM ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

A 1- 6 minute film that can take the form of anything comical. It’s a great opportunity to show us your creative flair and have fun!

WHO CAN ENTER?

This award is open to all women filmmakers and content developers. The film must be an original narrative created, produced and devised by a woman, or women, although male cast and crew members are allowed.

ARE THERE ANY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR MY FILM?

Yes – we require all films to be 6 minutes or under, to be entirely original dialogue, to not feature brand logos and most importantly, to only use music with the written consent of the performer and/or publisher either personally or via the PRS system https://www.prsformusic.com/ .

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH MY FILM?

We will broadcast selected entries on our Funny Women YouTube channel and social media (so keep an eye out) and the top 10 finalists’ films will also hosted on a dedicated Funny Women Comedy Shorts Awards page on our website. We will also broadcast the final 3 entries as part of the grand final night.

HOW IS IT JUDGED?

Films are judged for production, concept, delivery/performance, creativity, writing and overall funniness. The top 10 films are then viewed by an independent judging panel of top television and film industry professionals who will choose one overall winner and two runners up. The final three will be invited to attend the grand final in London on the 23rd September.
