Entry Requirements, Timeline & Judging Process

Stage Award

Registration for 2023 awards open 1/4/2023

Judging Process

Round 1

Every video is watched and scored by at least two different viewers from the world of live and broadcast comedy industry.

Round 2

The top videos are then reviewed and scored by new industry figures. The top scoring candidates from those entrants will go through to the Virtual Heats. 

These entrants will be announced 7th July 2022 via the website and social media

Heats

Heats will take place from 11th – 24th July 2022 and broadcast online via our website and YouTube Channel, where our highest scoring artists will be judged by panels of top industry professionals.

The Semi-finalists will be contacted by email and the list published on 4th August.

Semi-Finals

The Semi-Finals will take place from 15th August 2022 and broadcast online via our website and YouTube Channel

The top comedians progressing from the semi-finals will be revealed on 25th August.

Finals

10 finalists will compete in-person at the Stage Award Final on 28th September 2022 at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London. The final will also be broadcast via our streaming partners.

The Content Creator Award is entirely publicly nominated.

Nominations are made on this very website only starting from 1st April 2022.

Nominations Close

Nominations close 23:59GMT on Monday 29th August

public voting on the top 16 nominations

Voting opens 12:00GMT on Thursday 22nd September

The Content Creator receiving the most votes by this night of the final will be the winner of the Award

Finals

The winner will be announced at the Stage Award Final on 28th September 2022 in London. The final will also be broadcast via our streaming partners.

REGISTRATION FOR 2023 AWARDS OPEN 1/4/2023​

Judging Process

Round 1

Every script is allocated to a panel of readers from Funny Women and the narrative comedy and broadcast industry. Every script will be scored by two different readers, before the marks average is worked out and the longlist created.

Round 2

Those lucky enough to be on the longlist will be announced on the Funny Women site and via social media on  19th July 2022. Again all scripts will be read twice before their scores are averaged and those with the highest marks are shortlisted.

Round 3

For our final round the shortlist will be announced via the website and emails to the successful entrants on 29th August. These Shortlisted scripts will then be read by each of our exclusive panel of top industry judges who will then decide which scripts should make it to the top three.

The top three will be announced via website, social media and email in September 2022.

Finals

The winner will be announced at the Stage Award Final on 28th September 2022 at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London. The final will also be broadcast via our streaming partners.

Comedy Shorts Award

Registration for 2023 awards open 1/4/2023

Judging Process

Round 1

Every video is allocated to a panel of viewers from Funny Women and the narrative comedy and broadcast industry. Every video will be scored by two different viewers, before the marks average is worked out and the longlist created.

Round 2

Those lucky enough to be on the longlist will be announced 19th July 2022 on the Funny Women site and social media. Judging continues until we reach our Shortlist of 10 films

Round 3

The shortlist will be announced via the website, social media and emails to the successful entrants on the week of 29th August.

These Shortlisted videos will then be viewed by our exclusive panel of top industry judges who will then decide which ones should make it to the top three.

The top three will be announced via website, social media and email in September.

Finals

The winner will be announced at the Stage Award Final on 28th September 2022 in London. The final will also be broadcast via our streaming partners.

Comedy Shorts Award Entry Requirements

The deadline for registration for the Comedy Shorts Award has passed.

Funny Women NextUp…Comedy Shorts Award

Are you a budding Director? Producer? Screenwriter? Are you collaborating with friends to make a funny video? Then we are looking for YOU!

If you have a short film or sketch that you think is hilarious, then enter your work for our Comedy Shorts Award to be in with a chance of winning some life-changing support and mentoring from comedy professionals.

WHAT KIND OF FILM ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

A 1- 6 minute film that can take the form of anything comical. It’s a great opportunity to show us your creative flair and have fun!

WHO CAN ENTER?

This award is open to all women filmmakers and content developers. The film must be an original narrative created, produced and devised by a woman, or women, although male cast and crew members are allowed.

ARE THERE ANY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR MY FILM?

Yes – we require all films to be 6 minutes or under, to be entirely original dialogue, to not feature brand logos and most importantly, to only use music with the written consent of the performer and/or publisher either personally or via the PRS system https://www.prsformusic.com/ .

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH MY FILM?

We will broadcast selected entries on our Funny Women YouTube channel and social media (so keep an eye out) and the top 10 finalists’ films will also hosted on a dedicated Funny Women Comedy Shorts Awards page on our website. We will also broadcast the final 3 entries as part of the grand final night.

HOW IS IT JUDGED?

Films are judged for production, concept, delivery/performance, creativity, writing and overall funniness. The top 10 films are then viewed by an independent judging panel of top television and film industry professionals who will choose one overall winner and two runners up. The final three will be invited to attend the grand final in London on the 23rd September.
