Laughing Horse @ Kick Ass Cowgate

Address:

If you are a funny woman visiting the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time, the Funny Women’s Glitter Project is here to support you. We have a team of mentors, some friendly events and can even signpost you to specific support if you need it.

Join us in-person to get some first-hand advice from our experts who’ve all ‘been there, done that’ in some capacity. We all know how overwhelming it can be at the world’s largest arts festival, particularly if you’re new to comedy.

We will answer some of the most common questions such as:

  • Which shows should I see?
  • Are there open mics I can perform at?
  • How do I develop my work or skills
  • Where can I hang out with other comics, get a cheap meal, cry in private?
  • HELP?!!!

TICKETS

Pay What You Can in advance from the following prices to guarantee entry or turn up at the venue for free, with the option of donating at the end of the show.

Your Pay What You Can ticket options are: £2.50, £5, £7.50 and £10

BACKGROUND

We’ve clocked up over 20 years of supporting and developing new comedy talent at grassroots with our ground-breaking awards, workshops, courses and open mic events. Our priority has always been to build confidence in female and non-binary performers, writers and creators to give them the opportunity to pursue comedy careers.

OUR INSPIRATION

Jo Fletcher-Cross was one of Funny Women’s non-executive directors and a comedian, who was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour in summer 2022 on the eve of her first full run at the Edinburgh Fringe. Her diagnosis became the catalyst for The Glitter Project, an initiative born from her desire to make the daunting world of comedy ‘A Safe Place” for others.

She was a woman who lived her life by the philosophy that “everybody deserves a bit of glitter,” and leaves behind a legacy that has helped us to continue our work to change the landscape for women in comedy.
