20 years of Funny Women! Not too shabby, is it? This year’s Funny Women Awards Final, took place on Thursday evening at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London and I’m still reeling!
The clocks went back, time has been reset, I will be confused about it until they go forward again at which point I will be re-confused but in the other direction. No matter how much I think about it, it never makes sense and never will.
It’s hard to believe an entire year has passed since Lara Ricote won the Funny Women Awards in 2021. What a year she’s had, topped off most recently with a much-deserved Best Newcomer win at the Edinburgh Fringe for her show GRL/LATINX/DEF.
What better way to wrap up the month than with the Funny Women Awards final! An absolutely killer show with ten incredible comedians performing, three hilarious short films and an appearance from last year’s winner Lara Ricote.
There’s no rest for the whacked. Whether you were in Edinburgh or not, August has never been so exhausting. For the comedians up there, it was the unrelenting intensity of daily shows, and for everyone else, the unrelenting presence of the Fringe just existing in the world is enough to tire anyone out.
