Manic Pixie Dream Girls

You know what a manic pixie dream girl is, right? The term was coined by the film critic Nathan Rabin describing a MPDG as “that bubbly, shallow cinematic creature that exists solely in the fevered imaginations of sensitive writerdirectors to teach broodingly soulful young men to embrace life and its infinite mysteries and adventures.”

However do not expect boring girls in quirky hats at this Edinburgh Fringe show! No sir, 2015 Funny Women Awards finalist Sophie Duker and Texan improvisor Erin Simmons are leading ladies who aren’t about to indulge any soft-handed artistic boy in any rescue fantasy.

Instead these comedians have created their own #squad of funny women to join them in an hour of stand up as their mystery guest. Sophie and Erin have bagged some of the best comedy talent on the scene, with acts such as Suzi Ruffell, Sarah Keyworth and Elf Lyons joining them.

We saw 2015 Funny Women finalist Jane Postlethwaite joining these manic pixie dream girls for stand up, sketch and improv and now we have #squadgoals. Don’t miss this show if you want to catch some of the best women in live comedy.

Most importantly as well as reclaiming the term Manic Pixie Dream Girl, Sophie and Erin are raising awareness for the charity Women Against Rape (WAR) which offers support, legal advocacy and information to women and girls who have been raped or sexually assaulted.
