The Comedy Crowd, our long standing collaborators on the Funny Women Awards, have just launched their annual Chorts! competition.
The search is on for the best comedy sketches in under two minutes, introducing an exciting new comedy character or concept and talented new creators. Check out the best Chorts from the 2023 ‘Chortlist‘ to get an idea.
The submission window for Chorts 2024 is open now until Sunday 15th December 2024. Then Team Comedy Crowd and a committee of comedy creators will select a ‘Chortlist’ of entries to be reviewed by an exciting industry judging panel, including Funny Women founder Lynne Parker, who will choose the overall winners.
‘I love being part of the Chorts!’ says Lynne. ‘It’s a fresh perspective on the wide and diverse world of comedy and I’m always impressed by the creativity and imagination of those who enter. The accessibility afforded by social platforms is a great way to showcase comedic ideas and talent.’
There are some exciting prizes for the best entries:
All ‘Chortlist’ entries will be shared on the Comedy Crowd YouTube and Facebook channels, and the creators will automatically be enrolled in the Comedy Crowd Top Talent group receiving exclusive commissioned opportunities.
The overall winner as selected by the industry judges will receive a cash prize of £250.
There will also be a prize of £250 for the Chort with the most views, likes and engagement on Comedy Crowd channels after the first week.
Previous Chorts! winners who have ‘form’ with our own Funny Women Awards are Serena Terry aka ‘Mammy Banter’ (pictured above), people’s choice in 2023, and Lorely Matthias who won the industry vote in 2022.
The best entries will be screened at a special Comedy Crowd awards event in early 2025.
