Much like Lindsey’s hair, stage props and show title are all unapologetic in their pink-ness, brummy comic Lindsey Santoro in her comedy show Pink Tinge is a loud, blast of energy, that overall, is unapologetically herself. If I had to describe Santoro in 3 words, they would be: quick, crude and humble. The latter is immediately obvious from the off; as we enter the show, Santoro is there, on the ground, seating and greeting the audience with a friendly ‘alright bab?’ in between spurts of her (iconic at this point) loud cackle. The downright crudity of Santoro’s jokes, mixed with her down-to-earth, self-deprecating nature, makes her incredibly likeable, and is reminiscent to me of comics like Peter Kay, Sarah Millican and John Bishop. You can imagine her on telly doing this hour on Live At The Apollo with ease.
Pink Tinge covers topics that range from the obscene: including her experience getting a smear test, the trials and tribulations of motherhood and a rather graphic description of the Magic Mike show during her friend’s dreaded hen-do, to genuine and heartfelt, namely, anecdotes about her husband and married life. Santoro’s established style of anecdotal comedy is free from any trauma or ‘higher meaning’, it very much does what it says on the tin.
Santoro’s show bagged her a nomination for The Edinburgh Fringe Award for Best Newcomer this year, and while she didn’t go on to win the title, I can’t wait to see what she does next.
