Funny Women presents a special Glitter Project edition of Kidnap from Samia Rida: a comedy/drama based on the true story of her kidnap to Saudi as a child.
Kidnap is a darkly comic monologue exploring themes such as multiculturalism, disability, trauma, Saudi, mental health, and how kidnap can involve a swimming pool.
Samia is a London-born screenwriter of Saudi/Welsh heritage who has been selected in recent years for both the WFTV Four Nations Mentoring Scheme and the BBC Writersroom London Voices group. Her writing and performing often explores her complex heritage and mines, to darkly comic effect, autobiographical material. She has been mentored as an actor/writer by comedy producer Gareth Edwards, with whom she has also developed scripts; and recent work has been optioned by Fulwell 73 and Vox Pictures.
Directed by Gareth Edwards – the BBC producer behind That Mitchell & Webb Look, Upstart Crow and Spaced.
