SUMMARY:The Glitter Project - Showcase at the Fringe
DESCRIPTION:This is an exciting showcase offering a platform to female and non-binary performers who don’t have Edinburgh shows but want the experience of performing at the Fringe\, whether it’s their first time on stage or they are a more established act looking for a safe place to try out new material. \nOur line-ups include comedians from a range of countries\, skill levels and comedy styles – so you never know what to expect! Our hosts will be part of The Glitter Project mentoring team\, who will also be available to give advice both to performers and even audience members around their comedy aspirations. \nReady to take the stage? To book a spot at our Glitter Project Showcase\, please fill out the online form. \nTICKETS\nPay What You Can in advance from the following prices to guarantee entry or turn up at the venue for free\, with the option of donating at the end of the show. \nYour Pay What You Can ticket options are: £2.50\, £5\, £7.50 and £10 \nBACKGROUND\nWe piloted this initiative at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe thanks to being awarded a BBC Comedy Grant and some extra support from Russells\, with its proud 50-year history of advising clients in the entertainment history. We then shared in the Jones Bootmaker (ISH) Edinburgh Comedy Awards Panel Prize in recognition of our work. \nFunny Women was founded in 2002 by Lynne Parker\, based in the UK. It is at the forefront of nurturing and promoting female comedy talent – from finding and developing new acts through to the Funny Women Awards. We are committed to promoting gender equality in comedy and empowering women to pursue comedic dreams. Our gigs are warm\, supportive and hilarious\, and by attending our event you become part of a movement that aims to break down barriers and redefine the comedy landscape. We’ve created the Glitter Project to encourage those who’ve already established a glittering comedy career or have an interest in exploring humour and entertainment to share and explore creative possibilities. After all\, everybody deserves a ‘bit of glitter’ in their lives. Come and find out for yourself! \nOUR INSPIRATION\nJo Fletcher-Cross was one of Funny Women’s non-executive directors and a comedian\, who was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour in summer 2022 on the eve of her first full run at the Edinburgh Fringe. Her diagnosis became the catalyst for The Glitter Project\, an initiative born from her desire to make the daunting world of comedy ‘A Safe Place” for others. \nShe was a woman who lived her life by the philosophy that “everybody deserves a bit of glitter\,” and leaves behind a legacy that has helped us to continue our work to change the landscape for women in comedy. \n
