Lizzy Skrzypiec

For her 10th year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (yes, you read that right!), Lizzy is heading up with her new comedy improv show inspired by the great Agatha Christie.

Tell us about your show?

Murder, She Didn’t Write, is a classic murder mystery improvised live on-stage. Our detective scouts take audience suggestions and one audience member chooses the victim and the killer, we then we create an Agatha Christie-inspired masterpiece on stage for the audience to solve.

Who knows what crazy ideas people will suggest, but can you guess whodunnit?

How does it feel to be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival?

I feel like the Edinburgh Fringe is my spiritual home and August is my favourite month of the year by far. It is such an inspiring and exciting time. There’s the performance side of it, after all what better way to hone your craft than doing it every single day? Then there’s the social aspect which is electric. Have an idea for a play? Want to find out what others are putting out there? Want to talk to others about their experience in comedy? It’s the city of a thousand experts and you can chat to all of them! There’s no better place to be.

Have you got any tips for comedians going up to the festival for the first time?

This is our 10th year at the fringe and boy do we know the struggles of the first time fringe. I have three top tips for first time comedians:

  1. Drink water – Nobody drinks enough water. Everyone is tired and dehydrated. Bring a reusable bottle, keep it on you and drink water. Beer is not water.
  2. Don’t flyer people with headphones in – It’s the international sign for those who don’t want to be talked to. It’s not worth your time. I put my headphones in when I want a bit of social space and a walk, and I think lots of other do that to.
  3. Don’t talk shop all the time – It’s great to find out how other people’s shows are going and pour over reviews, but don’t let it consume you. Some of my best evenings have been spent chatting rubbish about non-fringe related stuff and having a mental escape from the comedy grind.

Lizzy Skrzypiec: Murder She Didn’t Write, 2-26 August at 3.50pm, at Assembly George Square (Gordon Aikman Theatre). Book tickets here.
