JESSIE CAVE: AN ECSTATIC DISPLAY

You might know Jessie Cave as the actor who plays Lavender in Harry Potter, or from her 2018-19 tour show Sunrise (which is now also a book), or as an illustrator of her viral doodles on Instagram. Either way, we recommend getting yourself a ticket to her new show An Ecstatic Display which in true Cave fashion will include puppetry, stand up with stories about relationships, reunions and her family.

RIA LINE: RIAWAKENING

Ria Lina has extended her national tour show Riawakening due to popular demand! Lina is a whip smart stand up comedian (and not to mention doctor of Virology), who has performed on Mock The Week, and bagged multiple awards for her stand up. In this show, Lina delivers mile-a-minute jokes about navigating a post pandemic world, dating and motherhood. Grab a ticket while you can!

RACHEL PARRIS: POISE

Sat-Sun 20-20 April-Oct @ Multiple Times, Multiple Venues

Hosting satirical segments on Late Night Mash, founding cast member of improv musical Austentatious, a Live at the Apollo set and a book out last year, Rachel Parris‘ unique brand of musical comedy has taken her from stage to screen to book writing. Catch stand up, songs and general merriment and hilarity in her newest tour show Poise.

JACKIE FABULOUS: FULL CIRCLE

As a semi-finalist on America’s Got Talent, Jackie Fabulous has made even Simon Cowell laugh. Bravo Jackie. In London this month with her show Full Circle, Jackie covers embarrassing moments, hard lessons and love, in her relatable and aspirational stand up style.

LAURA SMYTH: LIVING MY BEST LIFE

Laura Smyth brings her stand up show across the UK, kicking off this April in Winchester. Fresh from her run as tour support for Jack Whitehall, in her new hour Smyth covers the madness of social media, motherhood, work, chasing her dream, answering the ultimate question of ‘how to live your best life’. ESTHER MANITO: HELL HATH NO FURY

Thurs 17-9 April-May, Multiple Times, Multiple Venues

Esther Manito‘s show Hell Hath No Fury looks at the reasons why Manito is furious; the state of the world, Instagram comments, why women are tarnished as ‘hysterical’ when they are angry, all in her signature brand of immaculate observational comedy. If this isn’t enough to convince you, Manito has previously performed a Live at the Apollo set in 2021, won Leicester Comedy Festival Award for Best Show, and was a Funny Women Award Finalist.

GRACE CAMPBELL & SOPHIE DUKER: WIP

Catch the iconic Grace Campbell and Sophie Duker for a split bill of stand up. Sophie Duker most recently won series thirteen of Taskmaster, and less recently was a finalist in the Funny Women Awards. Duker has a Live at the Apollo set, and has appeared on multiple TV panel shows including Frankie Boyle’s New World Order and 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Grace Campbell has published a book Amazing Disgrace, debuted a critically acclaimed show at the Fringe A Show About Me[n] and has appeared on Comedy Central in Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains.

MICKY OVERMAN: WIP

Sun 14 April @ 8:00 PM, The Bill Murray, London

Another Funny Women Awards finalist, Mickey Overman brings her WIP show to The Bill Murray this month. You may recognise Overman from her viral social media content, from appearances in sketches on ITV2, Channel 4 and BBC3, or from her last show The Precipice which she performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (you can read our review here). Overman’s show is about how she has outgrown her old coping mechanisms (to buy a plane ticket and leave the country), and navigating life in her thirties.

LULU POPPLEWELL: YUCK (WIP)

Lulu Popplewell, previously Leicester Square Comedian of the year nominee and Chortle Student Comedy Award Finalist, brings her newest WIP show Yuck to The Bill Murray. Expect wry observations and dry punchlines. Grab a ticket while you can!

Comedy Shorts Award Entry Requirements

The deadline for registration for the Comedy Shorts Award has passed.

Funny Women NextUp…Comedy Shorts Award

Are you a budding Director? Producer? Screenwriter? Are you collaborating with friends to make a funny video? Then we are looking for YOU!

If you have a short film or sketch that you think is hilarious, then enter your work for our Comedy Shorts Award to be in with a chance of winning some life-changing support and mentoring from comedy professionals.

WHAT KIND OF FILM ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

A 1- 6 minute film that can take the form of anything comical. It’s a great opportunity to show us your creative flair and have fun!

WHO CAN ENTER?

This award is open to all women filmmakers and content developers. The film must be an original narrative created, produced and devised by a woman, or women, although male cast and crew members are allowed.

ARE THERE ANY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR MY FILM?

Yes – we require all films to be 6 minutes or under, to be entirely original dialogue, to not feature brand logos and most importantly, to only use music with the written consent of the performer and/or publisher either personally or via the PRS system https://www.prsformusic.com/ .

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH MY FILM?

We will broadcast selected entries on our Funny Women YouTube channel and social media (so keep an eye out) and the top 10 finalists’ films will also hosted on a dedicated Funny Women Comedy Shorts Awards page on our website. We will also broadcast the final 3 entries as part of the grand final night.

HOW IS IT JUDGED?

Films are judged for production, concept, delivery/performance, creativity, writing and overall funniness. The top 10 films are then viewed by an independent judging panel of top television and film industry professionals who will choose one overall winner and two runners up. The final three will be invited to attend the grand final in London on the 23rd September.
