‘Women aren’t funny’ – the line that prompted the birth of Funny Women more than 20 years ago, with a mission to bring gender parity to the comedy industry.

And some might say that we’ve made heaps of progress on that front – with more women, trans and nonbinary comedians than ever before.

At a time when we’re hearing from members of our very own Funny Women community that some comedy spaces feel less safe than ever, we are so thrilled to announce the return of London’s open mic night, Funny Women Live in London, newly branded in line with our growing roster of community events (formerly Time of the Month), in an amazing new venue, the world famous Groucho Club in the heart of Soho!

This is THE event to try out brand new material, do your first ever five minutes or just come for plenty of laughs as an audience member.

Community was and will always be needed in comedy, for new and developing comedians to laugh and learn together. This couldn’t be truer for women comedians, who over the years we’ve seen benefit from the encouragement, support and safety offered by gathering together.

The Groucho Club was created in the 1980s by a group of mostly women publishers as an antidote to the stuffy gentlemen’s clubs and we’re equally delighted and proud to partner them as our community venue in London. Together, we’ll be welcoming you to this inspiring and creative space for a night filled with laughter and camaraderie.

Our first night kicks off on Tuesday 30th April 30th at 7.30pm. Thereafter we will move to the last Monday of the month.

Our limited, first-come-first-served performance slots get reserved in a matter of hours. So watch this space for the official event announcement ready to sign up to perform or book your tickets ready to see some of the newest female comedy talent on the circuit.

Revelation to Revolution and a sister doing it for herself

Against the backdrop of a ‘revelation’ about the lack of women being booked for live gigs over the last few days, there’s a ‘revolution’ going on with sisters doing it for themselves. Nothing polarises this more than the fast-track comedy career of Serena Terry best known to her 3.5 million social media followers as ‘Mammy Banter’.
