There are plenty of comedy rules ripe for being turned on their heads, from ‘sad bit at the 40 minute mark’ to the idea a show must be an hour long. The one device I didn’t expect to be thrown out the window was the element of surprise. Instead of embarking on a journey with a twist end, Hagen opens by holding up a pad with the entire show structure written on it.
Not that that ruins the show, instead it leaves you wondering quite how Hagen is going to get from sex therapist to hot pizza to celebrity affair (x2), to democracy and back.
Previously Hagen has not shied away from quite distressing topics, this show is a departure where the Danish comedian shares their love of gossip. That’s not to say there isn’t a recounting of extremely unhealthy relationships, but it’s neatly dealt with rather than painfully examined. Self-exploration has been replaced with sheer glee and it makes for an incredibly fun show where you will leave wishing Sofie was your leader.
