Funny Women

If you are reading this, then a great big THANK YOU is required!  You may have noticed that it’s been a little bit quieter on our Magazine pages of late. This is because we’ve had a few changes and undertaken a review of all of our community activities.

Our priority is to continue supporting the development of new female and non-binary comedy talent and the wider community including those of you in the workplace who want to be more visible and have a stronger voice.

We will be launching the 2023 Funny Women Awards on 1st April so keep an eye out for updates, which will be on here, and sign up from our home page to receive the Funny Women Insider newsletter.

These Magazine pages are here to support this community and we welcome your contributions. Currently we are receiving a lot of review requests for both the upcoming VAULT Festival and the Leicester Comedy Festival – quite simply we don’t have the ‘woman-power’ and resources to come and see all your shows and rely on volunteers to keep this particular pipeline going.

So, if you fancy being a Funny Women contributor, we welcome submissions for the following:

  • Impartial reviews of any shows that are appropriate for our audience – 250-300 words maximum. Please note that we can’t publish reviews that you’ve written about your own show! If you want to be considered as a regular reviewer for Funny Women please email info@funnywomen.com with ‘I want to write reviews’ in the header. Include your contact details and we will arrange a call to discuss this with you. This is unpaid but we do get offered a lot of media guest passes so if you’re a comedy fan and want to feed your addiction, this might be an ideal role for you.
  • Q&A features if you have something to promote like a tour or festival show – email info@funnywomen.com, put ‘Q&A request’ in the header and we will send you the questions.
  • Comment articles about a topic close to your heart, as long as this is comedy related. This could be about how you devised a show, wrote a script, got signed by an agent, took part in a festival or a funny story… as long as it’s personal and readable we will consider this for publication. Maximum word count is 750 and please send to info@funnywomen.com as a word document, complete with your headshot and a short 50-word profile so that we can feature you as a contributor.

Please note that we are unable to pay for content but you can promote yourself as a contributor and whatever you’re doing as part of this collaboration.  We will offer you as much guidance as possible in return for helping us keep these pages active and fun.

Get writing!  This is a great way to build up your journalistic portfolio and we can’t wait to see what editorial talent is out there!

A Pat on the Back

We will broadcast selected entries on our Funny Women YouTube channel and social media (so keep an eye out) and the top 10 finalists’ films will also hosted on a dedicated Funny Women Comedy Shorts Awards page on our website. We will also broadcast the final 3 entries as part of the grand final night.

Films are judged for production, concept, delivery/performance, creativity, writing and overall funniness.
