Funny Women

Joining the 2019 Funny Women Awards finalists from our super strong semi-final at Komedia in Brighton are comedy double act Shelf!

Funny Women: How does it feel to be through to the 2019 Funny Women Awards final?

Shelf: We’re really excited! So many of our favourite comics and dearest friends have been finalists, and it’s absolutely arousing to be part of that list.

FW: Describe your comedy to us

S: We’re a comedy double act and we do sketches, songs and quite a lot of talking. Most of our material is based on our personal experiences, focusing on gender, sexuality and mental health. It’s a bit of a hybrid between sketch and stand-up.

FW: What inspired you to start doing stand up?

S: We really wanted to be a boyband. But we’re not male, we’re too old, and Rachel is tone-deaf, so we’ve settled for comedy instead.

FW: Who are your favourite funny women?

S: Claire Dowie. Tig Notaro. Chloe Petts. Chloe Green. Jodie Mitchell. Sophie Duker. Kemah Bob. Catherine Bohart. Sarah Keyworth. Olga Koch. Elf Lyons. Jordan Gray.
