Rosie Jones: Backwards

Triple threat Rosie Jones/Daddy/powerful lesbian is wickedly funny in her new show Backward. It’s clear that the stage is very much home to Jones, as we come in she’s dancing with her back to us, wearing headphones, before spinning round and introducing herself as said triple threat; gay, disabled, prick.

However even pricks get the blues, as it were, and in Backward Jones reveals a her more vulnerable side. Although still sprinkled among the sad bits are her usual dark and dirty jokes that possibly only Jones could get away with – She certainly has the old pullback and reveal down. As it were.

Sharing the tale of why she took herself to Australia – business class, please – she’s TV’s Rosie Jones, we get a bit of a taste of what life is like for Jones – including the highs and the lows, following her success as a comedian.

An incredibly charming performer, Jones has most of the audience eating out of her hand, bar one woman who I think was expecting a more earnest show. As someone who hates being described as an inspiration for simply drinking a pint of beer (legend) Jones refuses to fit into anybody’s PC ideal.
