Rachel Fairburn: Her Majesty

Rachel Fairburn’s show Her Majesty is gag-heavy, opinionated and smart. The Mancunian comedian is as no-nonsense as the matriarchs of her life and takes on varying subjects with the frank wit of her idols the Gallagher brothers.

One of these subjects was OCD, which Rachel was diagnosed with as a child. I cannot tell you how refreshing it was to see someone take to task anybody who claims to be ‘a little bit OCD’. However this wasn’t a diatribe, instead leading to a joke on the order Rachel would have to apply to any group sex situation.

No one was safe from 34 year old Rachel, particularly anyone younger than her who don’t believe the past applies to them in any way, shape or form in spite of the new habit of young women to call themselves princesses. This probably led to my favourite gag of the show, but there was plenty of material on childhood worrying, working class roots and the perils of a tidy bedroom.

Rachel ended her show with a little razzle dazzle that… well, you just don’t see nowadays. So you should bow down to her majesty.
