VisitBritain has turned to comedy to attract American tourists over to our green and pleasant land, with Diane Morgan as their figurehead. In the £3million campaign the Philomena Cunk star declares herself “British famous” and on a quest to find fame in America by…doing things she believes will appeal to Americans in Britain.
Diane kicks off her journey in Wales, trying out mindfulness in various beauty spots before exploring the music scene of Manchester and sampling rock stardom. In the next two comedy shorts due for release Diane will visit Scotland with action hero ambitions and become a hipster foodie in London.

Diane said: “It was a lot of fun to be part of a project like this. I feel like it was a good chance to showcase the lighter side of Great Britain and highlight the quirkiness of my homeland in an enjoyable way. I also hope it encourages more Americans to visit us on this side of the pond.”

The British Famous campaign is aimed at American visitors as the value of sterling falls post Brexit against the US dollar. American Airlines, British Airways and VisitBritain all put £1million into the campaign. Rob McDonald, head of global marketing for BA said: “Britain enjoys exporting comedy over the pond, so it was a natural choice for us to bring a little humour to this tourism campaign. We hope Americans will be encouraged to take a trip and explore Britain for themselves.”
