Anita and Me tells a coming of age tale about Meena, a young girl who is part of the only Punjabi family in her 1970s Black Country mining village. This comic and, at times, poignant story recalls village life in the era of flares, power cuts, glam rock and Ted Heath. Meena has happily played with the other local children until one day she meets Anita. Suddenly Meena knows just who she wants to be, but is Anita all she seems? Meena’s world is about to be turned upside down as she is caught between two differing cultures.
Author and comedian Meera Syal said: “I’m delighted that Anita and Me is touring the UK. It is amazing to think of so many people engaging in this story – particularly young people, who like me as a child, may be wondering how they fit in!”
