We’re Egg-static about this show!

In a little out of the way, off the beaten track bar at the back of George Square you’ll find Laughing Horse @ Southside Social and this is where you can watch brand new sketch comedy duo, Egg in their hilarious debut show, Static. We’re thrilled, overjoyed, egg-static (!) even that they’ve put this show together for the Fringe, as it certainly is entertaining.

The duo begin by introducing themselves (Emily Lloyd-Saini and Anna Leong Brophy), where they met (an audition. They’re actors don’t you know?!) and the elephant in the room…that route to the ladies toilet passes directly through the middle of the audience. Also that they are women of Asian origin, which they self-deprecatingly play on to assure the audience that women are funny. And my goodness have they hit that nail on the head!

Both Emily and Anna are seasoned improvised comedy performers and they utilise this skill throughout the show, bouncing off one-another’s energy, constantly having something hilarious to say and simultaneously pulling the same facial expressions highlighting how in tune they are.

The show doesn’t pretend to be clean and polished, and that’s the beauty of it. The freedom they have allowed themselves to improvise where necessary not only makes the performances more truthful, but all the more hilarious! They improvise their way through transitions with friendly banter that underlines Anna as the straight character and Emily as the antagonist.

A running theme throughout the transitions builds to climax at the end of the showing tying everything together wonderfully in the most hilarious, silly and ab-achingly beautiful moment that had me crying with laughter. In a weird way the sketches that punctuate the transitions are only used formulaically to break up the narration featured in the transitional sequences, and it’s the interplay between the two performers that really makes this show something very special.

You can see Egg perform everyday until the 23rd August at the Laughing Horse @ Southside Social (Venue 264) at 6.15PM.
