For the first time in nearly 10 years multi BAFTA award winning comedian Victoria Wood will take to the stage to lead a night of  stand up comedy and laughter in The Angina Monologues to support The British Heart Foundation. The show will be broadcast live and exclusively via satellite into selected Vue Cinemas, and will also include surprise performances from  Jo Brand, Isy Suttie and our very own Andi Osho, winner of the 2007 Funny Women Awards. The clink of wine glasses resonated around the luxurious surrounding of the Bingham Hotel on Tuesday evening.  Canapes sped past on trays to feed the large crowd who had turned out to support the participants of the first ever Funny Women Challenge.

Gabby Logan hosted the show superbly, giving a short interview to each of the challengers following their performance.  Mel Burgess was given the daunting job of performing first, a little nervous at first she soon got in to her stride and drew her set to a neat and hilarious finish.  Julie Hall and Claire Pelenc also gave brilliant and confident performances. Can you imagine Alan Sugar switching places with Michael McIntyre for just one day? Oh the chaos that would ensue! Not such a far fetched idea however as next week Funny Women are challenging five prominent business women who have never performed stand up comedy to put down their clipboards and pic up the mic to entertain you, the paying audience. Over the past couple of weeks each of the acts participating has been in training with our mentors – Lynne Parker, Viv Groskop and Elizabeth Mee. Are they up for the challenge?
