After the huge success of last year's Funny Women International Women's Day Charity Challenge which celebrated our 10th Anniversary and raised over £30,000 for a variety of charities close to the Challenger's hearts, we had to think long and hard about what we could in 2013. We are hosting another charity event on the eve of the big day, Thursday 7th March, at the lovely new St James's Theatre in the heart of London!
The evening starts with a discussion about the place of women in society and how our humour defines us, hosted by Viv Groskop, journalist, author and stand-up comedian. The second half of the evening is a truly international showcase of female comedy talent featuring acts from North America, Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia and the UK. The evening will be raising money and awareness for WomanKind Worldwide, a charity that supports women’s human rights around the world. Read Chief Executive Jackie Ballard's thoughts on the place of laughter in the battle for women's rights HERE. Read Lynne Parker's thoughts on the issue HERE.
Panellists include: editor of the Huffington Post UK Comedy section, Andrea Mann, sustainable fashion designer and ambassador for Womankind Worldwide Amisha Ghadiali, the Founder and Executive Director of the think tank African Peoples Advocacy and author Sylvie-Aboa-Bradwell, American comic Lynn Ruth-Miller who took her first forays into stand-up in her 70's, and Vanessa Vallely, the founder of leading women’s network, WeAreTheCity and charity campaigner.
