Gilded Balloon Teviot, midday from 2nd to 28th August with Funny Women Fest, our very own feast of comedy, interviews and highlights with a different host and line up every day.
Today’s host – Lynn Ruth Miller with guests Esther Manito, Kate Copstick and Carmen Lynch.
Lynn Ruth Miller (Britain’s Got Talent, First Dates) is the world’s oldest working female comedian and happy to be growing old disgracefully… “The nice thing about dating at my age is that you don’t have to meet their parents.” A sparky octogenarian, she won the Time Out and Soho Theatre Cabaret Award in 2013 and performs stand up Internationally and in the UK. @lynnruth
Esther Manito started out in comedy in April 2016, was listed as ‘One to Watch’ by Funny Women and became a Leicester Square Comedian of the Year semi Finalist in the same year. A Bath Comedian of the year finalist and Amused Moose semi finalist in 2017, Esther’s observational stand up takes you on a whirlwind tour of what life is like for an Anglo/Lebanese mum of two…..Esther also is a writer and has contributed to the publication Dont panic l’m Islamic. @esther_manito.
Scottish actress, tv presenter, writer, director, producer and “the Fringe’s most feared comedy critic” (The Scotsman), Kate Copstick co-hosts the Grouchy Club with John Fleming “A talking shop for comics riding the emotional rollercoaster of the Edinburgh Fringe”
Carmen Lynch (Inside Amy Schumer, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Conan) shares her twisted, singular stand-up comedy, which frequently dips into the dark side. Childless and drug-free (but only because of her heart murmur), she’ll share her views on Jesus, giraffes, scoliosis, her Spanish mother and, very often, death. @lynchcarmen
“One of my absolute favourite comedians” Amy Schumer
“Funny Women celebrates women finding their voice in comedy. It’s flying the flag for funny and has launched amazing careers. It’s a joyous thing.” Stylist
“Loving what you’re doing for women – you are class acts!” Backstage
And as if that isn’t enough, we’ll also be asking you to help us raise awareness of #PeriodPoverty. Bring a packet of tampons or sanitary pads and we will be working with www.periodpoverty.scot to donate them to the nearest food bank, refuge or charity for distribution to women less fortunate than ourselves.
