Funny Women Fest

Funny Women and Gilded Balloon bring a feast of comedy, interviews and highlights featuring the best of the fest with a different host and line up every day.

Today’s host Steff Todd (CKP’s Lunchtime Special) is joined by Rachel Parris (Keynote, Austentatious, BBC’s Mash Report), Carmen Lynch (Inside Amy Schumer, Last Comic Standing,  Late Show with Stephen Colbert and David Letterman), Anna Morris (Bitchelors) and local Edinburgh actress and comedian Megan shandley (Haver and 6x6x6).

Steff Todd  (Comedian, Presenter) is appearing as one of gang of up and coming comedians on the CKP Lunchtime special at the Fringe.  Over a short space of time she has already made her mark, with a unique mix of sharp one-liners and celebrity impressions.   Steff is well-known on the comedy circuit and was a “One To Watch” at the Funny Women Awards in 2016.  She was winner of the “Queen of the Meme” for her online Twitter jokes, which can be found here and also a Finalist in Nando’s New Comedian of the year 2016.

“Upcoming new talent – expect to see her go far over the next year, one to watch” – Funny Women awards.

“Clever, sharp celebrity impressions mixed with witty and inventive one-liners” – Stagefright Comedy.

Rachel Parris (Austentatious, The IT Crowd, Murder in Successville, The Mash Report) an award-winning musical comedian, actor and improviser, as a comedian, she has won critical acclaim for her solo shows which have run at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Soho Theatre London and on national tours, with the latest, Best Laid Plans, being awarded Best Musical Comedy Show (Whats On London), Best Jokes of the Fringe (Telegraph)  nominated for Best Show 2016 (Funny Women)  and recommended as a Pick of the Fringe by the Guardian.  She has made several appearances on BBC Radio 4 and BBC 6 Music, most recently in The Now Show, and on TV, she appeared in the IT Crowd Special on Channel 4, which was nominated in the Bafta Awards. She presented the Game of Thrones fanshow, Thronecast, on Sky Atlantic and she appeared in BBC2’s Murder In Successville and satirical sketch show Revolting which aired on BBC 2 and most recently is appearing as one of the regulars on BBC TWO’s ‘The Mash Report.

‘Endearingly frank and funny… tears of laughter’ (Guardian)

‘An uplifting, life-affirming hour’ (List)

‘Brutally funny’ (Skinny)

Carmen Lynch (Inside Amy Schumer, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Conan) shares her twisted, singular stand-up comedy, which frequently dips into the dark side. Childless and drug-free (but only because of her heart murmur), she’ll share her views on Jesus, giraffes, scoliosis, her Spanish mother and, very often, death.  @lynchcarmen

“One of my absolute favourite comedians”   Amy Schumer

Megan Shandley (Scottish Variety Award nominee 2017, Funny Women Regional finalist 2016) is a comedian keen to stick to her Edinburgh roots.   She shares an Edinburgh hour suitably entitled “Haver” with her friend Wis Jantarasorn –  could this be two Scotch roasters on the cusp of greatness?   Megan is also appearing at The Fringe 2017 in one of The Comedians’ Theatre Company duologues at the Pleasance Dome with Milo McCabe.

‘Megan effortlessly combines the joy of personal anecdotes with topical observation.’   Funny Women

Bex How is a newbie stand up comedian and a Funny Women ‘One to Watch’ 2016.   She is appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe 2017 in On The Edge a show with 5 acts, 5 friends, 5 different backgrounds and 5 ways to have you in hysterics.

“Funny Women celebrates women finding their voice in comedy. It’s flying the flag for funny and has launched amazing careers. It’s a joyous thing.” Stylist

“Loving what you’re doing for women – you are class acts!” Backstage

And as if that isn’t enough, we’ll also be asking you to help us raise awareness of #PeriodPoverty. Bring a packet of tampons or sanitary pads and we will be working with www.periodpoverty.scot to donate them to the nearest food bank, refuge or charity for distribution to women less fortunate than ourselves.
