Kick off your 2017 and spend a day with Funny Women exploring business from a different and humorous perspective. From making people laugh and getting paid for it, to using humour to jet propel yourself to business success, the end goal is the same and ‘funny’ really is good for business.
The next event in our Accidental Conference series focuses on how to successfully manage your life professionally and creatively. Our day of workshops combines performance-based skills such as improvisation, body language and mind fitness with negotiation, taxation, crowdfunding and personal branding.
Ticket price includes your choice of four fantastic workshops, facilitated by journalists, accountants, comedians, physiotherapists and vicars!
Here’s a taste of what you can expect:
We have brought together some amazing women to facilitate our workshops including our signature ‘Stand Up to Stand Out’ with Funny Women founder Lynne Parker and ‘How to think on your feet and improvise’ with actor, drama coach and improviser, Jenny Bolt.
Keeping our minds and bodies in tune and fit for business is an essential ingredient of success so we’ve asked Sandra Lamb of Bodymind Solutions to run one of her ‘Mindfit’ workshops. And if finding somewhere to live in London is driving you crazy, JLL property expert Diana Alam can help with her workshop ‘Buy or not to buy – how to win at living in London’.
We’ve got advice and information lined up on funding, finance and tax with accountant and author Anna Goodwin who will help you embrace ‘Tax without Tears’; comedian, author and vicar, Maggie Whitehouse talking ‘Mind Over Money’ and urban innovator Natasha Boardman-Steer will guide us through ‘Crowdfunding for Creative Development’.
Sales expert Jo James returns with her popular workshop on ‘Stop Selling Yourself Short’. Journalist and speaker Harriet Minter will discuss ‘How to build your personal brand’ and host a confessional panel discussion on ‘Winging It’ featuring some special guests including Saskia Schuster commissioning editor for comedy at ITV and Kelly Ford, radio host, aspiring comedian and founder of blog Book of Mum.
Our day ends in style with a headline performance from the hugely talented actor and impressionist Jan Ravens, who will help us to draw inspiration from her insightful and wickedly funny portrayals of some amazing women who dominate the headlines and govern our country.
Charity is never far from our hearts so we are delighted that the incredible Maggie Semple, OBE, FCGI CEO, has agreed to join us for lunch to talk about The Semple Dress Collection, her bespoke atelier in Covent Garden with a client list of impressive and intellectually curious women all of whom want dresses that fit them! She will be giving away and signing her equally bespoke book in exchange for a mere £10 donation to our fave charity, Refuge.
In all, this is an unbeatable and eclectic day of self-discovery.
“We all came away from that day knowing we’d been part of something special,” says Amalia Illgner, a journalism masters student at Goldsmiths who attended a previous event.
Funny Business is hosted by our corporate partner JLL at their stunning Central London HQ with a delicious buffet lunch and refreshments provided throughout the day!
