Business is no Accident – Accidental Conference – Women and Media

Lynne Parker

Here at Funny Women we like to subvert the norm. We’ve spent 13 years changing the face of female comedy so we’re now turning our attention to how women are perceived in business and public life. Everything jogs along just that little bit better and more easily when humour involved and women are really good at the funny stuff if they are allowed their say.

Our second Accidental Conference takes place on Saturday 14th November and focuses on ‘women and media’. We know that it’s hard being a woman in this media mad world – we have enough to juggle in life with relationships, kids and work plus less defined boundaries mean that we are faced with more challenges than ever before. With such extreme advances in technology and media occurring on almost a daily basis, some of us might feel left behind in the frenzy of everyday life. So this is our attempt to help you embrace it and learn to control the new technology rather than IT (get it?!!!) control you!

We’ve teamed up with some amazing media savvy women including Harriet Minter, founder and editor of the Guardian’s Women in Leadership Section who will be running a session on what’s behind the news; Samantha Baines, Comedian, past Funny Women Awards finalist and director of Penguin in the Room who will share some top social media tips; Liz Fraser, television presenter, author and journalist who will share tips about working in the media – including print (mags and papers), broadcast, book publishing, podcasts, and blogs; Sian Rowland, freelance education consultant on how to improvise and unlock your potential; and Ayesha Hazarika, who has just left her political life as special advisor to Harriet Harman MP and will fill us in on the secret of surviving public life.

We are delighted to welcome back Lisa Armytage, actress, voice artist and acting coach who will help you find your voice, Jo James, managing director of Amber Life and business coach with her amazing ‘anti selling’ techniques that are guaranteed to capture your ideal client’s attention, and of course our very own Lynne Parker, founder and chief executive of Funny Women who will show you how to truly ‘stand up to stand out’.

We will also be announcing a very special headline speaker very soon.

These amazing women are tasked to create a day-long event to help you get ahead combining technical dexterity with body and voice awareness and physical confidence. You will be encouraged to embrace media in its many forms and how to use it effectively for personal gain. Our aim is to leave you armed with some essential tips for self-improvement and renewed confidence to take into your personal and professional lives.

As ever, the buzz word for a Funny Women event is Fun!
