This is our 15th year of running the Funny Women Awards and once again we’re on the road across the UK and Ireland to find the newest and best female comedy talent.
We are delighted to be working in partnership with Funny Things, a new comedy festival for Wolverhampton and the Black Country.
We have some incredible alumni including Zoe Lyons, Kerry Godliman, Bridget Christie, Susan Calman, Katherine Ryan, Sara Pascoe, Jayde Adams, Desiree Burch and last year’s winner, Harriet Braine, who is already making a name for herself.
Our much sought-after Stage Award focuses on a series of live heats where each act performs five minutes of comedy in front of an audience. You could follow in their footsteps by taking part or come along and support the next brilliant crop of female performers and watch them take their first steps towards comedy glory.
This heat will be hosted by ordinary housewife extraodinaire – Mrs Barbara Nice (Radio 2) who has given up the domestic bliss of Tupperware and Poundstretcher shops for the unpredictability of the comedy circuit (her husband thinks she’s at the bingo). No audience is too rowdy for her to handle – she’s already raised five teenagers. She believes in bargains, Take a Break magazine, getting the most from life. Oh and Stage-diving! This well observed comedy character is so likeable that she draws even the most cynical of audiences and takes them along for a ride. She is currently on tour with her one woman show about chance and luck ‘Raffle’. barbaranice.co.uk
