Set Your Alarms for 3am Comedy on Radio 1

Funny Women

Funny Women

It was home to some of the most subversive comedy of the 80s and 90s such as Blue Jam and The Mary Whitehouse Experience, now Radio 1 is bringing comedy back to the station at the that prime time hour of… 3am. Radio 1 has picked some fabulous acts for a series of early bird comedy podcasts.

2014 Funny Women Awards finalist Lauren Pattison, Jen Wakeman, Emily Lloyd-Saini, sex writer Alix Fox and the Birthday Girls are some of the women featuring in this slot.

Lauren said: “I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to bring a fresh and fierce voice to Radio 1 alongside my soon to be partner-in-crime Ed. It’s a great chance for me to not only have some fun and maybe cause some light chaos, but to delve into some hot topics and burning issues, in a way that’s brutally honest, opinionated and most importantly from the perspective of a young working class scamp like myself.”

Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper said: “I grew up listening to Blue Jam and The Mary Whitehouse Experience on Radio 1 so it’s great to be able to give a new generation of young comedians an opportunity to make us laugh on a podcast from the BBC.”

Listen out for the comedy podcasts from Monday 5th February!
